I’m doing some work right now with bus stops and I can’t help noticing that there are some very arbitrary abbreviations in Bus Stop names, even though this is 2022 and I can’t see a reason for these limits being there.
My worry is… how are screen readers supposed to deal with:
- Swiss Cottage Stn / Finchley Road
- Trafalgar Sq / Charing Cross Stn
- Great Portland St Stn / Euston Rd (but “Harley Street”)
- Mornington Cres Stn / Camden Tn Library
Why can’t TfL spell out Station, Square, Road, Crescent and Town as actual work so the user don’t have to have a dictionary to work them out? Perhaps I was always troubled by Ealing Body a child?
How is a screen reader supposed to know the difference between a saint and a street?
