Journey Planner Data Update issue 363

Welcome to the latest Journey Planner Data Update – designed to keep you up to date with new timetables which have been added to the system and timetable data sources since the last issue.

We hope it will be useful to staff, external stakeholders and users of Open Data alike.

INTRODUCTION – OUR DATA

The Unified API is updated with new Journey Planner data each weekday.

LAST DATA UPDATES:

Journey Planner and API: Tuesday 16 February

TransXChange (Journey Planner Timetables): Tuesday 16 February

INTRODUCTION:

Journey Planner API data

The Unified API Journey Planner data is presently being updated with new data five days a week. All changes made will continue to be included in this document.

TransXChange (TXC)

There may be multiple versions of timetables, although this is not new in the TXC files, the ones with the most recent start date should be used. Please also refer to the end dates of these timetables. This newsletter will still be produced with a clear emphasis on data as opposed to a service update as such, and try and explain the context of the data supplied, with the feeds in the TfL Unified API, and the TfL website, being the best sources of live information.

NOTE: Testing of the TransXChange 2.4 format, as used by the national DfT Bus Operator Data Service, will start shortly, ahead of a move to this in the coming months. For now, we will continue to supply data in 2.1 format

LONDON UNDERGROUND

Amersham station is now fully step-free for all London Underground and Chiltern Railways services, however, a manual boarding ramp is needed for full step-free access. This improvement is reflected in Journey Planner,

The Waterloo & City line is closed. The following stations are closed until further notice (please note there may be other short term closures which will come through the live feeds as per normal disruptions).

Heathrow Terminal 4 will remain closed until further notice

DOCKLANDS LIGHT RAILWAY / RIVER / LONDON TRAMS / EMIRATES AIR LINE

DLR:

The full service is in operation on all days of the week.

River:

Thames Clippers, City Cruises and Thames River Services are presently suspended until further notice.

London Trams

The full service is in operation on all days of the week. Confirmed timetables for Christmas and New Year have been added to Journey Planner, the API and TransXChange – there will be no overnight service on New Year’s Eve.

Emirates Air Line

Services now operate 0700 to 1000 Monday to Friday, 0800 to 2200 on Saturday and Bank Holidays and 0900 to 2200 Sunday. Free travel in the morning peak will no longer apply.

LONDON BUSES SERVICE CHANGES

EXTRA SCHOOL JOURNEYS ARE PRESENTLY SUSPENDED.

We are continuing to run school bus services to help the small number of children who need to attend school during the current national lockdown. Most routes will not be separated into School Services and Non-School services, and all customers who need to travel can board the first bus that comes (subject to capacity). We will continue running schoolday-only services where they are required. Most of these services (routes generally numbered between 600 and 699) will run but some may be withdrawn if our monitoring shows they are not being used, and will be listed below. The additional school services that ran last term are not running currently so the School Bus extras zip file has been removed from TransXChange. This is because of reduced school attendance, in line with the latest Government restrictions

The following school routes are presently withdrawn: Routes 601 602 612 621 624 627 628 631 635 657 658 660 661 669 673 675 677 678 689

Route 661 will resume after the February half-term.

Now Our open data - Transport for London doesn’t seem to recognise a valid sign in, can someone tell me how I can access the current Journey Planner TxC files please?

Many thanks,

Simon

@SJCooper

Let’s ping @nickp

@SJCooper, @briantist

I’m currently getting my TxC files from TNDS ( ftp://ftp.tnds.basemap.co.uk) and BODS (https://data.bus-data.dft.gov.uk/timetable/download/bulk_archive), both updated weekly. The former requires advance (free) registration.

The London-based data in the two should be the same, but I haven’t got around to checking that yet.

@nickp @briantist,

The ‘London’ data in BODS is currently limited to those operators providing cross-border services. Several of the TfL ops provide timetable info for thier TfL cross border services and non-TfL commercial routes but there is (currently) no location information for the TfL services through the BODS system.
For the non-TfL operators who services originate outside London then they do provide timetable and location data on these cross border routes through BODS.

The reason I was asking about the TfL TxC files is so we can get a look at what we might need to do to make them work for us if TfL start providing data via BODS as they’ve suggested they might.
(plea to TfL - origin & destination names and their respective ATCO stop codes please!)

Simon
