Just looked up the directions from Amersham to Chesham on TfL’s Journey Planner, and despite me setting “now” as the leaving time, it suggests a bus that left 45 minutes ago.
Shouldn’t this say that the journey isn’t possible by bus/train and only show the walking/cycling routes?

Journey Planner is set up to return the last journey before the time that you have entered as a start time. This is by design and usually gives you a result within a few minutes of the start time. It’s designed to inform you that if you can leave a few minutes early and shave some time off your arrival time. In this case, it seems that the only previous journey was 45 minutes before, I imagine due to the infrequent options available at that time of night in that location.
