As part of our investigations into your analysis, we found a number of incorrect NaPTAN codes mapped into the Countdown source data systems. These seem to have been where a bus stop was removed and reinstated.
Essentially in the Countdown system, they are re-used but NaPTAN doesn’t allow this. It appears that we have found a bit of a gap in the process for reinstating stops. We’re working with the buses data teams to work out the best way of sorting this out so we can avoid these as well as correct the existing issues.
They are not the sole source of these, but we are continuing to work through the issues one by one and hopefully we’ll keep whittling them down.
I appreciate your response and i’m definitely grateful for the team working hard to solve these mismatch issues. I have seen fixes that was mentioned for stops “Hedge Lane Firs Lane” where in the countdown data it would display (90002227Z), giving me a 404 error code but is now (490002227Z) in the data which is now displaying arrival informations. I imagine it will be same fix for the rest. Again much appreciation towards the data team.

So it looks like TfL have started using the official Naptan names for those stops. 03700310 “Sorting Office” really needs changing though, there’s far too much c**p like that in Naptan.
(Although unlike TfL, at least Naptan provide a creation date, revision date, revision number, modification and status for all 436155 ‘stops’ in their list. Not so subtle hint there TfL Team! )
I got curious about the other stop names you listed as incorrect, so looked them up in Naptan too…

it might be that now TfL are supplying data to BODS that there’s a need to ensure consistent stop naming across operators, especially for out-of-London routes. Not that it stops the out-of-London operators from using their own version of stop names.
You probably know this but where the same H&R “stop” appears with a H and HC code, it is the HC one that is correct. I think it is something to do with enabling H&R “stop” details to be Communicated through TfL systems. The older code really should not still be there.
This sort of thing is one reason why I use good old-fashioned databases. Set them up right and they whinge if you try and add in a duplicate.
