Tram stop "indicators"

Tram stops do not have indicators equivalent to bus stops, hence none are shown by TfL in the stop database downloads. However, the NaPTAN UK stop database shows some (but not all) of the TfL tram stops with a 5 digit number in the indicator column. For example:

9400ZZCRHAR1 Harrington Road Tram Stop 20041
9400ZZCRPHI1 Phipps Bridge Tram Stop 20023
9400ZZCRWAN1 Wandle Park Tram Stop 20015

Does anyone know if those numbers are a mistake or if they have a specific function?

Hi. How odd! I must admit I’ve never come across these numbers before. I wonder if there’s some significance.

The NaPTAN data for tram stops is managed by the Department for Transport (this is the case for all stops where the ATCO code starts with a 9).

@drjharrison Do you happen to know anything about what these tram stop indicator numbers mean?

The last digit is the platform number when it ends in 1 or 2 (sometimes 3 or 4)

9400ZZDL is London then DLR

Sorry didn’t finish there are 9 rows with the “200” coding that all just appear in Platform 1 codes

and just one “Platform 1” in Centrale

@briantist which leaves unanswered: why only those 9 tram stops and what function do the numbers serve?

I asked about the tram stops because that is relevant to a TfL forum but the NaPTAN UK dataset has thousands of stops with “rogue” Indicator entries. For example, many repeat the Bus_Stop_Code entry. Those and many others appear not to comply with DfT’s own detailed guidance on preferred indicator values.

As already suggested this seems to be a question for @drjharrison
